Rebecca Harris performs on period and modern violins, and is in demand as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader.
Rebecca studied at Wells Cathedral School with the assistance of the DfE Music and Dance scheme, and later at the Royal Northern College of Music with Richard Ireland. Following her education she established her career in the United States, where she toured extensively as a principal with Tempesta di Mare, and performed with many leading American early music ensembles. During her time in the United States, she gave recitals as part of major exhibitions at the Museum of the American Revolution and Philadelphia’s Institute for Contemporary Art, and made chamber music appearances at The Soraya (Los Angeles), Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Gotham Early Music Series (New York City), Curtis Summerfest, Hamburg Orgelsommer and Chamber Music of the Black Hills (South Dakota), amongst others.
Rebecca’s discography includes her solo project A String Mysterious, multiple releases with Tempesta di Mare for Chandos, and chamber recordings with The Raritan Players and Night Music. Her collaborations with American new music choir The Crossing include a GRAMMY award-winning recording of Lansing McLoskey’s Zealot Canticles and GRAMMY nominated recordings of Thomas Lloyd’s Bonhoeffer and Benjamin C.S. Boyle’s Voyages.
Since returning to live in England, Rebecca’s musical life has included appearances at the London and Halle Handel Festivals with Opera Settecento, leading projects with Europaïsches Barokorchester Le Chardon and Norwich Baroque, and recital work with cherished new chamber partners. When she is not performing, Rebecca is active as a visual artist, and regularly collaborates on inter-disciplinary projects with other artists.
